Energy Efficient Water Heaters

In American households today, one of the biggest uses of energy is with water heaters.  A water heater is used for everything from laundry to showering and bathing.  With a large household, you can imagine how expensive this can be over time! This is one very important reason why energy efficient water heaters are great choices for any household out there – especially those with large families.

Not all water heaters and energy efficient water heaters are created equal. There are several types of heaters to choose from, such as conventional storage heaters, demand heaters, heat pump water heaters, and solar water heaters.  For the sake of simplicity, we’ll just say that you need to know what type of water heater you want before you go and purchase one, and that will depend on your individual household and your needs.

The next step is to learn a bit about what energy efficient water heaters can bring to your household.  The obvious benefit is savings.  With a water heater that is more efficient, you get an appliance that uses less energy – and energy costs money! There is also a second benefit – less stress on the environment.  Energy takes fuel, and fuel pollutes.  If you use less energy, then you are being more conservational – and that helps, especially if everyone were to do it!

Switching to an Energy Star water heater can save you around $30 a year.  Since most water heaters last for around 12-14 years, that means you can save a minimum of $360 for your water heater.  We know many things we could do with $360, and you probably do too! Many major retailers will even install the water heater for you for a small fee, or for free.  Think about these things the next time you decide to purchase a water heater.  If you do, you’ll definitely see that energy efficient water heaters are absolutely the smart choice.
