These days, there seem to be more and more ways to help out the environment and make society a bit more energy efficient.  We have become quite creative with programs and incentives to encourage consumers to modify their lifestyles in a positive and eco-friendly way that also helps with savings and efficiency – and vehicle purchase and scrappage is one such method.

We drive millions of vehicles every day that are inefficient when it comes to fuel.  Just take a look at your average road.  Chances are it will see countless gas-guzzling cars, trucks, and SUVs pass by, burning gas, polluting the air, and costing consumers lots of money in fuel bills every year.  This is why the government has created vehicle purchase and scrappage programs – to encourage car owners to sell their old gas-guzzling vehicles and replace them with more efficient models.

The Cash for Clunkers program is one that is designed to take old, inefficient vehicles off of the road and replace them with models that collectively bring up the average gas mileage in the United States.  The idea is that the government offers you money for your vehicle that either gets poor gas mileage or is too old to safely and efficiently operate.  A dealer then scraps the vehicle and sells you a newer one that is more capable and efficient.  With this vehicle purchase and scrappage program, you trade in for a more efficient vehicle and pay less than you would normally.

How great is that?

In a vehicle purchase and scrappage deal, you can also sell your old vehicle to a scrap-metal dealer or recycler and receive cash that you can then put towards buying a vehicle that has a better gas economy. You get a new, better car, and the environment receives a bit of relief.  If everyone were to do this, then maybe the environment would be just a bit cleaner- which is good for all of us!
